About the Course
Curriculum
The Wilderness First Aid program includes at least 16 hours of instruction. Classroom activities feature lectures, discussions, patient assessment exercises, and skill labs. Students are encouraged to further their knowledge by using their textbooks after completing the course.
Requirements
Before enrolling, please review our Functional Position Description. This policy helps students evaluate their ability to meet the requirements of a WMA International course and the responsibilities of a certified wilderness medical provider in the field. Minimum age 16
Evaluation
The course is graded on a pass/fail basis, with 100% attendance required. Evaluation includes practical patient simulations, hands-on activities, and a written exam. WMA International is dedicated to providing reasonable accommodations for students with special needs.
Recertification
Certifications remain valid for three years. Graduates are encouraged to retake the WFA course or consider advancing to the Wilderness Advanced First Aid or Wilderness First Responder.

Adult CPR Certification (Compliant with ILCOR/AHA standards)
Certifications last for three years.
Recognized by the American Camp Association
This course is acknowledged by the American Camp Association (ACA) for meeting specific ACA certification standards.
Coast Guard Approval
This course is approved by the U.S. Coast Guard to fulfill First Aid and CPR training requirements of 46 CFR 11.201(i)(1) for merchant marine licenses.
